How to become a security guard in Ontario?

You need a License to work as a Security Guard in Ontario. Before you start, make sure:

  1. You are 18 years old or older.
  2. You are legally entitled to work in Canada.
  3. You have a clean criminal record.

If you fulfill above 3 Requirements, follow below mentioned 4 steps to accomplish your goal.

1-Complete 33.5 hours of Basic Security Guard Training.

Our company is approved by the Ministry of Community Safety & Correctional Services to provide this Basic Security Guard Training. This is an online course that gets you job-ready. This course contains lessons, videos, quizzes, and Live interaction with the instructor through Zoom. This course will allow you to become a licensed security guard in Ontario. After completing this course, we will provide you with a certificate and Training Completion Number, which you will need to book a Ministry test.

2 -Complete 6.5 hours of First Aid/CPR Training.

First Aid is an emergency care or treatment to an injured or ill person using readily available materials before regular medical attention can be obtained. First aid is intended to preserve life, prevent further injury, and promote recovery. First aid is made up of both knowledge and skills. First aid training and certification is a requirement of the basic training program for security guards. A link to the WSIB approved Emergency First Aid & CPR Training providers is given below,

3-Pass a Written Test organized by the Ministry. (Online/In Person)

You can register for an exam only if you have completed a qualifying 40 hours of Basic Security Guard Training. After completing the basic course, your Training Entity will forward your name to the Ministry of Community Safety & Correctional Services to get your Training Completion Number. Once you receive your Training Completion Number, you can book your test online at http://www.ontariosecuritytesting.com.  The test is written, in multiple-choice format, including 60 questions. Test appointments are 2 hours in duration, 75 minutes of which is the allotted test completion time. The passing grade is 62 percent. Test results will be made available on the same website within 1 business day of completion of the test. These results will be sent to the Ministry at the same time. To pass this test we have prepared a series of tests that you can practice online. These tests comprise most of the relevant test questions, covering published objectives of the official exams. You can strengthen your preparation with these practice tests and will feel confident and well-prepared before writing your exams.

 

4-Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)

All applicants must provide a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) with their application. In Ontario, you must request a CRJMC from an:

  1. Ontario municipal police service.
  2. Ontario First Nations police service.
  3. Ontario Provincial Police.
  4. a private business that is authorized to provide police record checks.

All CRJMCs must be issued within the last six months.

Submit following items with your application

  1. Your Ontario Training Completion Number (TCN).
  2. Your Ontario Mailing Address.
  3. Your Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) in its official format.
  4. A passport-quality photo that meets the photo requirements.
  5. Front and back of two different valid (non-expired) government issued identification documents (IDs).
  6. Appropriate payment for your licence type.
